Long and suggestive stage suspended above Valfurva, at the foot of Mount Confinale.

In a succession of changing landscapes you encounter small groups of huts and alpine dairies. From Forni traverse to the nearby huts of Pradaccio and Ables, then on to the dairy of Confinale and the Cavallaro huts.

Passing through centuries-old forests and rosy banks covered with rhododendrons, it is common to observe the animals symbolic of the Stelvio National Park, such as the bearded vulture, the golden eagle, the marmot, and the ermine.

10/06/2024 ATTENTION: IN THE ABLES LOCATION, FOLLOWING THE INTENSE RAIN, SURFACE LANDSLIDE MOVEMENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHICH MAKE THE ROUTE VERY DIFFICULT FOR MTBs. WE RECOMMEND TRANSIT ON FOOT ONLY.

A 21km trail that is not particularly challenging but nonetheless requires a certain amount of fitness and stamina due to its length. Starts from the Forni refuge and ends at the Fantelle car park in Madonna dei Monti. Take the trail towards the Branca refuge and when it splits in two head towards the Malga dei Forni, continue on over the Girella bridge until you reach the path that leads to the Pizzini refuge. Along the way you can enjoy spectacular views of the 13 peaks and Gran Zebrù, and listen out for whistling marmots. There is a brief descent along a wider road, before you take the mainly flat S257 trail to the right that cuts across Mount Confinale and passes tiny clusters of huts at Raseit, Ablés and Malga Confinale. Continue on to Ables, where you can stop off at the agriturismo of the same name, and past the malga del Confinale until you reach the Baite di Cavallaro. Once arrived, after enjoying the sweeping views over the Bormio valley, begin the descent to the mouth of Val Zebrù, concluding the stage at the Fantelle car park in the village of Madonna dei Monti.
